Why BijliWise Was Founded

In India, retail electricity billing is notoriously difficult for consumers to audit. Unlike flat-rate utility services, power distribution companies (DISCOMs) bill domestic households using progressive telescopic slabs, where the marginal cost per unit escalates sharply as consumption crosses statutory thresholds.

On top of energy charges, bills include fixed demand fees per kilowatt (kW) of sanctioned load, variable fuel adjustment surcharges (such as FAC in Maharashtra, FPPPA in Gujarat, and PPAC in Delhi), and state-specific electricity duties. When consumers experience a summer bill spike or switch to high-power appliances like inverter air conditioners, they are frequently left in the dark about whether the increase is due to appliance runtimes, seasonal compressor strain, or a sudden jump into a penalty slab.

Yogesh founded BijliWise after noticing that while State Electricity Regulatory Commissions publish extensive Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) petitions and tariff orders, these documents are published as hundreds of pages of legal PDFs that are virtually inaccessible to everyday consumers. BijliWise bridges this gap by transforming primary gazette filings into transparent, reproducible web calculators and educational resources.
