Electricity and water running costs per wash cycle, and why using the internal water heater doubles your power consumption.
Running a standard cold-water wash cycle in a top-load or front-load washing machine consumes only 0.2 to 0.4 units of electricity (about ₹1.50 to ₹3.00 per wash). However, if you turn on the internal water heater (e.g. 40°C or 60°C hot wash), consumption jumps to 1.0 to 1.8 units (₹8 to ₹14 per wash).
Many consumers believe that automatic washing machines consume a massive amount of electricity. In reality, the electric motor running the wash drum draws only 300 to 500 Watts:

On cold wash, both use almost the same power (~0.3 units). However, front loaders feature powerful internal water heaters (2000W); if you frequently select 60°C hot cycles, power consumption will be 3x to 4x higher.
Using cold water daily costs only around ₹50 to ₹75 per month in electricity. Using hot water daily costs ₹250 to ₹350 per month.
